Welcome back to my exclusive post on admission guidance for MD and MS aspirants. I would like to give a small introduction about myself. I am Dr. Sushil Agarwal a career counselor and education blogger by profession. I am also into career guidance and admission guidance for mainly medical courses. Here I will give you complete information about MD MS admission through the management quota in 2022 based on my personal knowledge and experience of 15 years.
Before you start to read this long guide for MD MS admission through management quota, you can watch the video where I have explained everything about PG medical admission in detail.
You will be getting a clearer idea if you read this page after watching the video.
Before I start, I would like to tell you that the qualifying NEET-PG entrance exam is mandatory to get admission to any medical college in India. You must also register for the counseling procedures in MCC for DEEMED UNIVERSITIES and also for which state you want to take MD or MS admission.
Some states in India invite applications for students of other state domicile students also to take part in the counseling procedure of their state medical private colleges under private and NRI quotas. However, you have to apply separately irrespective of applying in MCC in order to be eligible for participation in the counseling process.
For example, if you want to take MD MS admission in Karnataka, then you must register for online counseling on Karnataka Examination Authority’s official website. Without attending online counseling you cannot take any seat in any medical college in India.
Even for direct admission for MD MS, you must register for counseling. Unregistered candidates won’t be eligible for taking admission to any medical college in India. You can read about the official news given in The Hindu newspaper.
What Happened in 2021 MD MS Admissions?
I want to share a few experiences from the year NEET PG 2020 counseling. This could serve as a protip in making your mind clear and will help in decision making.
The counseling was delayed a lot. Then the Supreme Court of India interfered and gave the decision.
The Eligibility score was 302 for the general category students and 265 for the reserved category students.
The Eligibility was reduced at the later stage of counseling during the Mop-Up round by approximately 15%.
Due to this, the number of students who got freshly eligible went very high.
I witnessed lots of students who could not qualify for the past 4-5 years get qualified. So, taking advantage of this opportunity, no students wanted to miss out on the seats available in private medical colleges.
On the last round of counseling (not only Karnataka BUT entire states of India), all the seats of all branches(both NRI and Q quota) got filled up, and the students who kept waiting to take the unallocated seats at lower fees ended up losing one more year.
So, taking the right step at the right time and staying updated with information was very important for the students eyeing PG seats in Medical colleges in India in the year 2020.

Most of the colleges have stopped offering these diploma courses now, even if available, in my knowledge, there are only 3 to 5 colleges (both government & private included) who are offering this course.

Admission procedures for MD or MS
There are a few steps to get direct admission through the management quota for MD/MS. I will list and explain the procedures below:
Qualify for the NEET entrance exam.
Register for Online Counseling.
Document Verification( Different state, Different set of rules)
Online Counseling Round 1.
Online Counseling Round 2.
MOP-UP Round.
Offline Mop Up
Download the allotment letter (Done by the college where you get selected)
Now let me explain the process involved after you have a qualified NEET-PG entrance exam. The first step is that you must register for the counseling. You can register for All India 50% Counseling through MCC or the state counseling conducted by respective state counseling authorities. There will be a registration fee of around Rs.1000 to Rs.2500 depending on the state.
After you have registered for the counseling, you will have to verify your documents either online or by physically going to the verification center. In a few states, you don’t have to go to the center. During the verification, you will have to submit a Demand Draft of Rs.2 lakh- 5 lakh(depending upon the state to state and PG seats required in Dentistry or Medical, which will be deducted from your first-year fees)
In a few states(Example- Karnataka), you don’t have to deposit any security amount, However KEA registration is mandatory.
After the document verification, you have to attend the first round of online counseling. You will have to log in and lock your choice of department and college. Check your results and see whether you are able to secure a seat.
The same procedures will be repeated in the second round of counseling.
If you weren’t able to secure a seat in both rounds, then you can attend the MOP-UP round.
Now you might be thinking what is MOP-UP Round, right?
The seats which are vacant after the two rounds of online counseling will be allotted during the MOP-UP round. For the MOP-UP round, the candidate must be present at the counseling center or if conducted online, they must follow the guidelines as mentioned on their website.
Those seats which are vacant even after the MOP-UP round, you can easily take direct admission(These seats are unfilled seats or the seats which students could not take because of their higher fees structure or might be because of any other reasons of the student).
But, the candidate must register and attend the whole counseling procedure and their name should be there in the unallotted student’s list uploaded by the counseling authority.

MD MS Fee Structure in Private Colleges & Deemed Universities
Here comes the most complicated part due to which there has been always confusion in expectation and reality between the Students. Fees will be different for different courses in different colleges and different places and different states. Fees structure are different as per the category and quota also.
In order to make it simple, I would like to give a basic Idea. Fees are kept different for Govt Category seats, P quota, Q quota, and NRI quota. The other state domicile applicants are not eligible for govt seats other than in their states.
The tuition fees will be listed in the state authority website and MCC and you can get all the details there. For example, if you want to know the fee structure in Karnataka, then check the Karnataka Examination Authority website. The websites will be different for different states.
The tuition will range from Rs.10 lakh/year to Rs.85 lakh/year depending on the department and colleges. For example, MD pathology management seats will be having one cost, and Anesthesia will be having another.
You can expect a hostel fee of around Rs.1 lakh/year to Rs.2 lakh/year.
